fREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS A CELEBRANT?

A celebrant leads your ceremony! A ceremony can be celebrating anything you wish; the most common ceremonies are weddings, baby namings and funerals. As your celebrant I will help you plan and prepare a ceremony that is completely personal to you. I write bespoke ceremonies for the alternative and the quirky. The ceremony is delivered at the time and place of your choice and a celebrant led ceremony can be anywhere!

are you a humanist celebrant?

I was inspired to become a celebrant when attending a humanist wedding. I love the celebration of the human in the ceremony. However, I am not a humanist celebrant as I find it too restrictive in terms of the content you can put into your ceremony. If you would like any religious or spiritual readings I am more than happy to have these included and help you find the right ones for you.

can you legally marry us?

I cannot legally marry anyone. There are movements within the system that one day I might be able too! (Fingers crossed!) To legally marry you must register your marriage in your local registry office. Registrars can marry you legally in certain venues and will often call themselves a celebrant but watch out! A registrar cannot craft you a personal ceremony according to your wishes and there are lots of restrictions. Most of my couples have legally married at their local registry office within the week before their wedding ceremony with me at the weekend. I can help you obtain a 2+2 ceremony (you and your two witnesses) which is the cheapest and simplest method of getting married legally.

can you co ordinate the ceremony on the day?

Yes! I have experience of wedding co-ordination before the ceremony as well as Master of Ceremonies after the ceremony.

was that you on Married at first sight uk?

Yes! I have been lucky enough to marry couples on Married at First Sight UK Season 7 and Season 8. It was a fantastic experience and I currently have a 50% success rate! It is one of my favourite shows so I was thrilled to be involved.

what has been your favourite ceremony?

It was incredibly special for me to marry my sister to the love of her life in a beautiful DIY community wedding in South London.

I then married my brother to his beautiful new wife less than a year later in the stunning setting of The Giraffe Shed, a Welsh wedding venue full of love and laughter.

I couldn’t possibly choose between them!

I was privileged enough recently to conduct a renaming ceremony for a non-binary 18 year old who had chosen a new name to bring into adulthood. Again it was a wonderful family affair full of love.
